Sometimes grabbing our Bible isn’t that easy.  We fumble through the pages trying to figure out where to start.  Should we read one verse or maybe a chapter? Should we read a familiar verse or something new?

A daily devotional guide is a great place to start.

1. The selections are short.

2. They provide a scripture reference for you.

3. And they stick to one thought for the day, to allow time to meditate on the words and absorb God’s Word throughout the day.

The best part is that these devotionals can be found online everyday for free.

Here are 5 great online devotionals to start your day:

5-online-devotionals

Elisabeth Elliot’s Daily Devotional  The experiences of this courageous missionary are shared through her daily thoughts to inspire and encourage us.  Woven into the stories are teachable moments, daily reminders of God’s love, and scriptures to provide us with His truth.

The UpperRoom  The UpperRoom has always been a favorite of mine.  It reaches across the world in many languages and across denominations to bring daily scripture, personal stories, and prayers to believers of all ages.  Through the years, no matter what was happening in my life, these selections have somehow spoken to my own personal circumstances.

Our Daily Bread  These pocket-sized readings can now be read and heard online. At the top of each reading, you’ll find a listening option that can be downloaded through iTunes or through another mp3 device–making this daily devotional a great option for commutes and running errands.

My Utmost for His Highest  One of the most widely used devotional sources, the thoughts of Oswald Chambers have always been a favorite for me.  This site also shares a downloadable app optionto add to your mobile device.

Tozer Devotional  The Christian and Missionary Alliance provides daily thoughts pulled from the sermons of A.W. Tozer, along with scripture references, quotes, and a prayer. There is also a forum option to share in a deeper discussion about the text.

Find the one that’s right to start YOUR day.

Just a few quiet moments with God at the start, sets our day on a path filled with positive thoughts of who we are in Him. It reminds us of His control over our day and gives us assurance that He is working and moving on our behalf.

[Tweet “When we begin our day with God, we remind ourselves that we are His instruments. “]

Daily surrender becomes a healthy habit that changes our lives so we can then go out to bring change to the rest of the world.

What about you?
