Baked Hot Ham Cheese Sandwiches: Garden vegetable cream cheese takes these ordinary hot ham and cheese sandwiches to an out of this world meal idea. It’s an easy recipe your family will love!

hot ham and cheese sandwiches

We love baked ham cheese sandwiches at the Smith house. There’s something wonderful about the slightly toasted bread filled with warmed sandwich fillings and loaded with melted cheese. That’s why this week I decided to create a new sandwich recipe. Since the boys love hot ham and cheese sandwiches, I grabbed a couple of ham varieties from the deli and a couple of sliced cheese varieties, too.

I’ll admit that those fillings alone create one tasty sandwich. However, it was when I decided to skip the mayonnaise for a different sandwich spread that really made this ham and cheese sandwich sing.

On a whim, I decided to grab a package of Philadelphia Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese from the fridge to use as my sandwich spread. Let me just say that these sandwiches were amazing. The cream cheese melted over the rest of the fillings to blend the garden vegetable flavors over everything else.

This is a winner. You need to try it. Even better, you can easily exchange different ham and cheese varieties for this one. So if you already have some ham and cheese in the fridge, by all means, use it. Just make sure to try it with the garden vegetable cream cheese.

And, no, the cream cheese people aren’t sponsoring this post. I just thought you might like this one, and, since I don’t know of another version of the garden vegetable cream cheese spread, I’m mentioning the Philadelphia because it’s the one that I regularly use for other recipes.

Here’s how I made mine.

Baked Hot Ham Cheese Sandwiches

Ingredients

6 Hoagie Rolls

1 package Black Forest Ham, deli-sliced

1 package Smokehouse Ham, deli-sliced

1 package Honey Ham, deli-sliced

Thin Sliced Monterey-Jack Cheese

Lettuce

Tomato, sliced

1 tub of Philadelphia Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Evenly spread a generous amount of the garden vegetable cream cheese on the inside of both halves of the hoagie rolls.

Layer 2 slices of cheese, ham, tomato, and lettuce in each sandwich.

Place the hoagie rolls in a baking dish with the open side facing up.

Bake for about 10 minutes until the cheese in nicely melted.

Enjoy!

Just a note: I didn’t add the tomato and lettuce until after it baked because I actually forgot them, though I usually like my tomato warmed a bit. I guess I was so in love with the idea of trying the cream cheese sandwich spread that it slipped my mind.

I simply added those veggies after I’d baked the sandwiches.
