3 Simple Steps to Organize Scripture Cards

As you begin to memorize scripture, it’s important to develop a system of review.  Why put so much time and effort into memorizing all these verses if you forget by next week or even next year?  Keeping up with your scripture cards doesn’t take much time and once you have a system, it will become a great habit to keep.  Here are 3 simple steps to organize scripture cards, tagging it into your memory for good.

1.Use a Note Card Binder

Once you’ve memorized the verses from your scripture cards, keep them organized in a binder.  Or, to save space, toss the cards and make a new list of just the scripture’s address.  I like to keep the original scripture cards-that’s just how I roll-but they can begin to cramp your binder space.  Once you’ve set the verse to memory, you really just need the scripture’s address.

Note card binders can be found at pretty much any store that sells office supplies.  (You can find a few links to some cool ones as the bottom of this post).  I recommend getting something pretty durable.  And I’m all about cool office supplies, so I like to find something I’ll enjoy looking at and using as well.  But I’m just nerdy that way.

 2. Divide the Binder into Sections

I then grab a calendar and mark off rehearsal points.  There are 3 of these to this process: 45 days, Weekly, and Monthly.  I then divide my note card binder into those 3 sections.

Here’s an example:

SECTION ONE: Daily Verses for 45 Days

SECTION TWO: Weekly Rehearsals Once a Week for 7 Weeks

SECTION THREE: Monthly Rehearsals on a Specified Day

3. Rotate the Note Cards

The verses rotate through the 3 sections of the binder until finding its place somewhere in the monthly section.  Here, decide on a day of the week to rehearse the verse again to make sure you revisit it at least once on a monthly basis.

After your memory verse finds a home in the monthly section, it’s also a great idea to record the date.  That way, you can look back and celebrate the many verses you’ve committed to memory throughout the years and recognize the impact the verses have made along the way.
