May is Teacher Appreciation Month! To celebrate, we’re showcasing SONIC Drive-In’s #ThanksTeach campaign. SONIC Drive-In continuously shows support for teachers across the country through the Limeades for Learning program. This year, you, too, can join us by thanking your favorite teachers throughout the entire month of May, using #ThanksTeach in social posts about a favorite teacher, coach or mentor. For every use of the hashtag, SONIC will make a donation to public school classrooms, up to $1 million this month.

#thanksteach campaign

SONIC Drive-In’s Limeades for Learning

Did you know that teachers spend more than $1 billion of their own money each year on school supplies?

As a former public school teacher, I know all too well about the dedication and the many sacrifices teachers make on a daily basis. More than that, I realize as a mother of two teenage sons, how much of an impact teachers have on our future and the many young lives they change, little by little, everyday.

I’m so thankful for teachers like Mrs. Miller, who personalized lesson plans and worked extra hours to accommodate for my son’s learning style when he was in her class in 5th grade. Up until that point, he’d made good grades and found school bearable, but he hadn’t found a spark for learning. Instead, my son viewed each school day as more of a chore and counted down until summer vacation every year, from day one.

After a few weeks in Mrs. Miller’s class, I noticed a big change in my son’s attitude. He talked nonstop about what he was learning and spoke of Mrs. Miller as though she was an extension of our family. The more interest she showed in my son’s hobbies, the more he wanted to participate in the classroom.

The more Mrs. Miller invested in my son’s education, the more he seemed to want to invest in it for himself. Even though my son is now in middle school, he still talks about Mrs. Miller as if she’s part of the family. He’ll sometimes tell me a story she shared or mention something she taught that year in class. For him, her teaching continues because she sparked an interest for learning that still burns today. #ThanksTeach Campaign

SONIC Drive-In’s #ThanksTeach Campaign

That is why I am thrilled to join SONIC Drive-In’s #ThanksTeach Campaign! Since 2009, SONIC has served as an advocate for teachers in local communities through its Limeades for Learning program, a national initiative in partnership with DonorsChoose.org to provide teachers with essential funds to continue inspiring creativity and learning in public school classrooms across the country.

Just like our Mrs. Miller, we all can remember those teachers who made a difference in our own lives and left a lasting impression. In honor of SONIC’s $1 million donation to local public school teachers through Limeades for Learning, the #ThanksTeach campaign will serve to thank teachers for their personal commitment within their classrooms.

Join the #ThanksTeach Campaign

You can join us! During Teacher Appreciation Month, SONIC will be launching all sorts of fun #ThanksTeach segments across its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter channels. For every retweet, share or unique content created by fans and followers incorporating the #ThanksTeach hashtag, SONIC will donate to public classrooms, up to $1 million in May. That’s a super easy way we can make a difference and show our beloved teachers we care.
