Housecleaning Tips: Overwhelmed by everyday housekeeping? Here are 7 house cleaning tips to make housecleaning super easy!
It’s easy to become overwhelmed by a messy and cluttered house. And with kids, I know just how stressful and frustrating it can be as a busy mom to try to keep things in order and keep your sanity, too.
Through the years, I’ve found a few house cleaning tips to make housekeeping quick and easy. That way, I’m not spending every weekend catching up on cleaning so I can spend time stress-free, having fun with my family instead.
7 House Cleaning Tips
1. Cut the Clutter
Less clutter means a cleaner space. It’s really that simple. Recently, my husband and I painted our den. It’s the biggest room in our house and over the years has become the most cluttered, too. After painting, we decided to only allow just the bare necessities back into the space. Now, it’s my favorite space in the entire house. When I go in the den, I feel more relaxed and in control.
There’s not that much to dust or clean and the room always looks neat and clutter-free.
Cut the clutter and you’ll never have to worry about where to store all your stuff. That way, you’ll never be overwhelmed by a messy space again.
2. Daily Laundry
My husband and I have always practiced the habit of tossing in a load of laundry everyday. And if something happens and we get behind, I pay for it dearly with a piled up laundry room the next week.
It’s just easier to toss in a load of laundry each morning or wash a load during dinner. One load of folding and putting away is much more manageable than tons of laundry staring at you over the weekend when you have plenty of fun things you’d rather do.
3. No Dirty Dishes
I don’t know what it is about a clean kitchen sink, but for me, it’s the one area that keeps me sane. That’s why my family knows to load dirty dishes into the dishwasher. At night, I just start a load and empty it after breakfast the following day.
Ask your family to help out by rinsing those dirty dishes and immediately loading them into the dishwasher instead. This will prevent dishes from piling up in the sink and keep the kitchen better organized and clean.
4. Schedule clean sweep chores.
It doesn’t take but about 30 seconds to clean your bathroom mirror or empty the contents in your office garbage bin. Keep a running list of clean sweep chores, like sweeping the kitchen or dusting furniture, and take a few minutes before bedtime to run through it.
After a while, the chores will become second nature, and with little effort, you’ll keep your house sparkling clean without even realizing how much you’ve done.
5. Manage your mailbox.
Magazines and mail can become one big pile of clutter. However, you can guard against mail pileup immediately. File mail as soon as you receive it and toss unwanted sales papers and other items before they ever have the chance to clutter your space.
6. Brush the Toilet
Just like everyone brushes their teeth every morning, take a quick brush to your toilets, too. In the mornings, after you shower and dress, take a minute for a quick scrub around the toilet to keep it nice and clean without much thought.
7. Clean as you go.
You can easily clean your entire house everyday without realizing it. Here’s the best housecleaning tip ever: clean as you go.
As you go about your daily routine, pick up around the house. Empty the bathroom garbage as you leave the room, and scrub that casserole dish as soon as it leaves the table.
Every afternoon before bedtime, carry a basket from room to room, and do a quick walk through, gathering toys and other items that need to be put away.
These simple ideas will become your easy routine to keep things tidy without the hassle. That way, you can spend more time enjoying your family and less time stressing over housework.
