This South of the Border Cheese Spread Recipe is an easy appetizer for tailgating parties. It’s a delicious finger food that your family and friends with love!

South of the Border Cheese Spread

We love appetizers and finger foods at the Smith House. They’re perfect for game nights because I can just set up sort of a buffet table and everyone can grab chips and whatever appetizers they like as we play games and enjoy time together.

This South of the Border Cheese Spread recipe has been one I’ve been making for a long time. It’s one of our favorites, and I love it because it only requires three ingredients. What makes this one even better, is that you probably have these ingredients on hand.

Here’s how I make this one.

Ingredients

1 8 oz. cream cheese, softened

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup chunky salsa

Directions

Mix the ingredients together and let it chill in the refrigerator overnight. Enjoy!

Seriously, that is all there is to this one. That’s why we love it. I use a mild salsa to suit everyone in our family. But you can easily add a little heat with a spicier version salsa, too.

If you’re in a hurry, you could go ahead and serve as soon as you mix it together. It tastes just as delicious. However, this is a cheese spread recipe, so if you want that spread like texture, it does help to leave it in the refrigerator overnight. That way, it has a little time for all those wonderful flavors to blend and create a spread, rather than a dip.

Either way, it’s yummy. I usually make it a day ahead when I’m taking it to serve at some other gathering. As a cheese spread, I serve it with some sort of crackers using a knife to spread. The last time I made it, I served the spread with Town House Sea Salt Pita Crackers. They were perfect for this recipe.

But at the house, the boys like to use thinner tortilla chips with it, so for that, it’s great to serve up as soon as you’ve whipped it all together.
