Looking for some new family fun ideas this summer? Check out these fabulous ideas that will make your next family fun night extra special and loads of fun!
I’m always looking for new ideas and ways to make our family fun night a little more exciting. Although I love watching movies together and playing board games, sometimes I want to think outside the box a bit, and look for new ideas for family fun.
And during the spring and summer months when the weather is warmer, I want to find excuses for us to get up and moving, instead of sitting on the couch watching movies or staying in the same place around the dinner table as we play all those favorite games. It’s just too wonderful outdoors during those summer months. So I like to do as many of our family fun night activities as we can outside in our own backyard.
Here are just a few ways you can change up your family fun night this summer.
Fabulous Ideas for Family Fun Night
1. Take a Flashlight Hike
Explore your backyard under the light of a full moon. Grab a few flashlights or a lantern, pitch a tent or pull out some lawn chairs, and spend an evening outside experiencing your own backyard from a different point of view.
2.Build a Birdhouse
Are you handy with a hammer?
Grab some scrap wood and build a birdhouse. Not so carpenter savvy? There are plenty of easy and inexpensive birdhouse kits available for the rest of us that include everything you’ll need to make your own.
3. Get Cooking
Spend an evening in the kitchen. Teach your kids how to make one of you family’s favorite recipes or try a new recipe together that requires lots of chopping, mixing, and tasting, too.
4. Campfire Cooking
Instead of cooking inside, cook over an open fire instead. There are lots of easy recipes for campfire cooking and plenty of tasty ones your kids can cook, too.
5. Make a Movie
Spend some time planning out a fun movie scene together. Then create a couple of costumes and props, and make a home movie you can watch again and again. Or how about an animated story? You can even create animation with everyday objects. It’s just another super fabulous way to spend some time with your family.

The flashlight hike sounds like such a fun idea. My daughter is one and My husband and I always try to do something special with her during the weekend. It’s been tough during our bitter cold winters, but we’ve managed to do some fort building and picnics in our den for a few nights here and there. I know she’s not fully aware of what’s going on yet, but I feel like as she grows older, it’ll become tradition she’ll remember for a long time. Thank you for these ideas.
